June Happenings

What follows is a summary of how our June has gone. May's weather was horrible with one storm after another. Several storms literally lasted for days. Luckily we did not experience any major flooding here in Bentonville, but the same can not be said for many towns to the south and east of us. June's weather has been the opposite. We have had warms temps and clear skies. Yippie!

We have been bad about recording things these days. The camera has been left behind much too often lately. We have visited several State Parks and had some really fun hikes. We also took a trip to Branson, Missouri to spend the day at Silver Dollar City.

NOTE: We forgot our camera when we came to visit CT in May, and therefore, only have a few shots that I took with my phone. If anyone has pictures and would like me to do a post for that trip, just send the files to me and I'll set it up. -thanks

I had nothing to do with this! Send all comments to Renee. Btw, a boy at Haley's school keeps trying to marry her. I told her she had to wait until her hand was as big as mine. She asks to check every morning.

Trip to Compton Gardens with NWA Hiking Group

Haley and I led a hike/walk at Compton Gardens for the NWA Hiking Group. I have posted about Compton Gardens in the past so I'll just create a link for those that want to learn more. It's one of my favorite places to go for a walk, and it's only five minutes away from our house. Also, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will be opening this November and will be accessible from the Compton Garden trail.

Haley had a great time and enjoyed leading the walk. She was showing everyone her favorite flowers, and her favorite places to find bugs and see spider webs. Sorry, but I forgot to get a group shot at the beginning.

4-9-2011 Heart Walk

We got up early to go help Renee set up for the American Heart Walk. Renee's company, Novartis, is a sponsor. According the the American Heart Association's website, "The American Heart Walk promotes physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun family environment." So basically, you get to walk around and get a bunch a free stuff from all the sponsors while also walking a mile and having an opportunity to read and learn more about how to live a healthier life.

4-3-2011 Hiking Devil's Den's Yellow Rock Trail

On a beautiful spring day we decided to make the hour drive down to Devil's Den State Park to hike the Yellow Rock Trail. The three-mile long trail ascends about 300 feet to the top of the sandstone bluffs where you are provided and unobstructed view of the surrounding hills and Lee Creek Valley. Along the way there are several small caves and crevices that you can explore...we chose not to. Haley enjoyed picking the flowers, finding bugs, and collecting sticks. Haley's favorite flower to pick was the yellow buttercups.

 Sandstone Bluffs

 Renee spotted this Eastern Fence Lizard basking in the sun.

 At the top! Sorry we don't have any pictures of Lee Creek Valley or the other surrounding views because as you'll see with the next picture, we got distracted.

 Renee was about to sit down on a rock when this little guy (about 3 feet long) decided to let her know that the rock was already taken.

 It turned out to be a Black Rat Snake, which is a nonvenomous snake that constricts its prey to kill it. We didn't know that at the time so we stayed away.
