Records Are Meant To Be Broken 2-09-2011

WOW! This latest storm is impressive even by Connecticut standards. The sad part is that the forecast was for only 2-4 inches for our area (Bentonville) while some areas of Northwest Arkansas where expected to get as much as 3-7 inches. Well, the forecast was way off. Many areas of NW Arkansas received at least 2 feet of snow! I measured about 18 inches outside our house.

UPDATE: The state of Arkansas has a new one-day snowfall record. According to 5NEWS Chief Meteorologist Garrett Lewis, the new total, which was set Wednesday, Feb. 9, is 23 inches. The record was set in Northwest Arkansas. Lewis says the old record dates back to 1918. It was a small band of snow which caused the large totals, explains Lewis. Update#2 We didn't break the record :-( The highest recorded snow fall with this latest storm was 24 inches. It turns out that the record is 26 inches, which was set in 1918. Boo hoo.
Here are some pics, enjoy.

 Haley's Playhouse

Our deck. I guess we should have brought in the cushions!
Looking out our front door at our neighbor's car.

Looking straight out our front door
Looking South down our street from the end of our driveway. Our mailbox is buried.
 Same as above
Looking North up our street from the driveway
I was too lazy to shovel the whole sidewalk. Whatever though, there's still walking room.
 Our house from the street
 Shovel in snow for scale
Looking out our garage. I had to shovel the driveway twice. But once the snow was gone the sun helped to melt any last remaining patches of snow and it should be dry before the sun sets tonight.
